In my entrepreneurship class (now two years ago), I was promoted with a simple yet thought-provoking question.
What does the word “entrepreneur” mean to you?
It felt like a straightforward question at first, honestly. But upon further thought, I soon realized that the definition of entrepreneurship is difficult to fit inside a box. No one really has a solid answer.
There are countless adjectives that can be used to describe an entrepreneur.
- Passionate
- Brazen
- Excitable
- Driven
- Focused
- Dreamy
- Daring
I think you get the picture here. The list could go on and on.
Right now, there are about 31 million self-proclaimed entrepreneurs just in the United States. That stat was from 2019, BTW, so one can only imagine what it is in 2021.
Every single individual who classifies themselves as entrepreneurial is chasing some type of dream they have internally crafted for themselves. Do you have a great dream?
Whatever this dream may be, the goal of the individual is to see their vision come to fruition. They want to feel as if they have “done it.”
Even me, for example. The lovely picture above is from my very first brand photoshoot. Just the simple fact that I did a brand shoot made me feel….successful. And now, looking back, that was one of my personal “done it” moments.
However, I digress. The spirit of the entrepreneur, to me, involves freedom. We’re talking about freedom to make your own choices, freedom to live on your own terms, and freedom to create a satisfying life that you are in control of.
So, what does being an entrepreneur (aka entrepreneurship) mean to you?
Let me know in the comments below. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
