Ca-ching! That’s the sound of more money flowing into your bank account.
(Or it will be once you finally start that internet side hustle!)
Everyone wants to learn ways to make money online. It makes sense.
We live in a digital era where you can (1) sell almost anything and (2) sell yourself to the advertising and marketing gods for a pretty penny.
Jokes aside- we all know it’s true.
Your favorite influencers are making ~bank~ by working with brands who need a marketing boost. And all those YouTube videos you watch with the carefully placed ads? The video creators happily sold a little piece of their air-time to advertisers.
However, there are more ways to make money online than just via ads.
So, if you’re reading to roll up your sleeves and learn how to start a side hustle for long-term gains, let’s go.
Honestly, dropshipping gets a bad rep. While it’s not an easy internet side hustle, it can be lucrative in the long run.
According to data by Oberlo, there were about 2 billion global e-commerce buyers in 2020.
“In 2017 alone, 23% of all online sales globally were fulfilled through the dropshipping model, which is equal to roughly $85 billion per year.”
Now, I must admit, I don’t have an insider’s look at the world of dropshipping. So, I recommend you look into success stories like this one.
You can make big bucks. But it takes months to see a return and requires investing some capital upfront in product testing, website, and advertising expenses.
Ah, YouTube- a haven full of any how-to or entertainment video imaginable. YouTube is a great way to make money online if you love producing videos or simply want to try your hand at it. However, it’s tough to break into. And it requires a lot of trial-and-error.
You can start monetizing your YouTube channel after 4,000 watch hours (within one year) and 1,000 subscribers. But how do you get that far? Well, consistent posting plus a combination of three important factors.
- A likable personality
- Quick, fun video editing
- Valuable information or entertainment
How much money you make on YouTube (from advertisements) will range based on how many people see the ad, how long it was viewed, and other factors.
P.S. A lot of YouTube creators will hire someone else to edit their videos. It happens aaalll the time.
Social media is a very interesting way to make money online, partly because it’s something we all use to pass the time. From my experience, there are three groups of people on social media. Those who:
- don’t care at all and just want to scroll casually
- are aspiring to be an influencer but aren’t quite there
- are influencers and put HOURS of their time into it
No matter what group you might loosely fit into, you can harness the power of social media to earn extra money with:
- Brand deals (what everyone is hoping for)
- Affiliate marketing
- Utilizing your fanbase to sell your products or services
I recommend investing in Abby’s courses on using Instagram to grow your audience and ultimately monetize via IG.
BTW, if you need a writer to whip up your social media captions/posts, then let’s talk about it.
Low Content Books
This one is for all you writers and book-lovers out there. If you haven’t heard of low-content books, then you’re going to love this unique way to make money online.
Think of the last time you purchased a planner, diary, calendar, or even a coloring book. These would all fall into the low content category because they are not meant to be read- technically.
You can easily design your own planner or notebook with a software like Book Bolt and then pop that baby up for sale on Kindle Direct Publishing.
Pro Tip: Do your research to see what is actually being searched. Searches = people looking to buy.
Crypto and ETFs
Investing is not just another way to make money on the internet. This is a way to secure your financial future. Let’s read that again for emphasis.
It’s a proven fact that TRUE wealth is created by investing. You will not find a single wealthy individual who doesn’t invest to some degree. It could be real estate, buying into a business, holding traditional stocks and ETFs, or getting a foot in the cryptocurrency game.
Coinbase is one of the top, most trustable platforms for buying, selling, or trading crypto. It’s super easy for beginners and a
P.S. You can get $10 worth of FREE Bitcoin when you buy $100 of crypto on Coinbase. But you have to use that link to receive it!
*It’s a referral link.*
Patreon is the older cousin to OnlyFans that DIDN’T get a *cough* adult *cough* reputation. If you’re not sure how it works, you essentially earn money by offering tiered subscription packages.
For example, I have my own Patreon account that starts at $2 per month. Those who pay that monthly investment will receive exclusive poems, stories, writing tips, discussions, and the chance to pick my brain.
Your options on Patreon are endless. People sell access to music, art, behind-the-scenes content, and so much more.
Did you know that you can make 4-6 figures a month with a blog? Yes, that’s right. Whoever said blogging was dead told a lie.
However, the market is definitely more saturated now than it was in the early 2000s. But that doesn’t mean you cannot carve your own path and see if blogging is right for you.
So, how do you earn money with a blog? Without considering courses, products, or extra selling opportunities, the answer is simple: ads and affiliate marketing. You can throw brand deals in there too.
Here’s how it works.
- Start posting blog posts and building an audience on social media.
- Use SEO and organic or paid methods to drive traffic to your blog.
- Set up display ads to earn money for pageviews.
- Join affiliate programs to earn a commission off products/services you promote.
BTW, if you need a writer to whip up your blog posts, then let’s talk about it.
Most people don’t realize that you can actually make money as a Shopify Partner. I didn’t even know about their program until I saw someone post about it on Instagram. It’s free to join and only requires a quick application.
According to their partner guide, there are 3 main ways to monetize from their program:
- Referrals to Shopify
- Create Shopify-specific apps
- Create Shopify-specific themes
If you’re tech-savvy or know anything about coding, then this would be worth looking into.
Welcome to the overlord of ways to make money online. Sales funnels are the top-tier, best way to monetize on the internet. They are how millionaires are made. Point and blank.
This could (and probably will be) an entire blog post within itself because there is so much to learn about sales funnels.
Sales funnel = freebie + low ticket offer + medium & high-ticket offer + post-purchase nurturing
As far as platforms go, you can sell your offers via your own website or use the ClickFunnels platform for a fee.
I recommend grabbing a book, taking a funnel course, and consuming as much information as possible before setting up your funnel.
There are many moving parts involved before you make money, from advertising to writing the sales copy and building your offers.
Most entrepreneurs would consider funnels a passive income stream because you create everything once, set it in motion, and then only adjust as needed.
BTW, if you need a writer to whip up your ad or landing page copy, then let’s talk about it.
Merch by Amazon is a print-on-demand (POD) service. You upload a design and specs for the product, and then Amazon will print and fulfill the order for you. It’s that simple.
You’re probably asking, “Sarah, can I even make money from Amazon Merch?”
Yes, yes you can. You’ll earn royalties on every product you sell. But Amazon Merch is definitely not a get-rich-quick scheme. It’s not a way to make fast money- at all.
However, it is a brilliant way to build passive income for the long run if you go in with a strategy.

So, what do you think? Do you have anything to add to this list? Let me know if you currently make money online using any of the methods we talked about.
Until next time,
Sarah E Ashley
